Ik las over jouw winkel toen je opstartte en ik kwam weer bij je terecht toen mijn zoontje geboren was en ik me afvroeg hoe ik het allemaal ging doen, borstvoeding en werken. Ik had me vooraf voorgenomen dat ik geen termijn ging kleven op borstvoeding geven, ik had er nog zin in, maar ik wist niet goed hoe ik ging aanpakken.
Ik ben toen de workshop Borstvoeding en werk komen volgen en daar heb ik ongelofelijk veel aan gehad! Goede kolf aangeschaft, flesjes voorzien (de aventflesjes die op mijn lijst stonden staan dus nog steeds ongebruikt in de kast, de Medelaflesjes die op de kolf passen zijn 100 keer handiger), leuk tasje met koelelement aangeschaft en aan de slag. Kolven geeft me 2 keer per dag een klein rustmoment op het werk. Op 15' zijn mijn borsten ongeveer leeg en kan ik weer aan de slag, wetend dat ik het meest gezonde eten voor mijn zoon voorzie en dat ik dat zelf maak.
Ik heb het een tijdje een beetje stresserend gevonden, omdat ik niet altijd voldoende melk gekolfd had voor 3 flesjes van 150 ml, gelukkig was er de voorraad in de diepvries die ik voor ik ging werken had opgebouwd. En sinds kort lukt het me in het weekend en 's avonds beter om af en toe wat extra af te kolven, zodat die diepvries weer wat gevuld wordt.
Sinds kort heeft de zoon de kaap van de 6 maanden gehaald en eet hij ook groentjes en fruit. Een gigantisch succes. Hij is de properste (en één van de meest enthousiaste) eter van de hele crèche. Niet moeilijk als je bedenkt dat de anderen beginnen vaste voeding eten aan 4 of 5 maand en dat zijn darmpjes daar na 6 maand gewoon klaar voor zijn. De eerste dag kreeg ik wel een telefoontje om te vragen of het goed was dat hij zijn flesje niet meer kreeg, want ze waren begonnen met de groentenpap en die had hij helemaal opgegeten, de volle 200 g. We hebben toen maar afgesproken dat ze eerst het flesje geven en dan pas de groentenpap of fruitpap. Nu eet hij braaf een halve portie :-)
Ik maak zijn flesjes borstmelk nu een beetje kleiner en eind van de maand mogen ze de volgorde omwisselen en hem eerst eten geven, maar ik zou graag hebben dat de flesjes nog een tijdje blijven.
Borstvoeding en werken/crèche zijn absoluut te combineren, het kost hen eigenlijk echt niet veel extra moeite. En ik lees vaktijdschriften tijdens het kolven, dus ook daar geen verlies voor het werk. Net zoals bij de start van de borstvoeding heb ik dus nog steeds geen deadline op het voeden geplaatst. Ik weet alleen dat het op die manier alleen maar leuk is en dat er dus niet veel redenen zijn om te stoppen.
Mijn hart bloedt dan ook elke keer als ik een kennis hoor zeggen "chapeau voor iedereen die borstvoeding geeft, maar mij is het niet gelukt, na 5 dagen ben ik gestopt". Borstvoeding is ongelofelijk fijn, maar je hebt soms wat hulp nodig, of om op gang te komen of om te leren hoe je het kan combineren.

I really enjoy breastfeeding, it's so easy, but the broken nights fill me with despair. So I went to the open consultation where I met Dorien Daems. First of all, she wanted to know what Boris eats and drinks during the day. He eats pureed fruit and vegetables in the creche and in the evening he has dinner with us. Just before going to bed, he drinks two breasts. But nearly three hours later, he wants to nurse again. And then again, after three or four hours. Finally, early in the morning, he wakes up ad seems starving again. And then Dorien said something I probably could have figured out myself, but I never thought about it: he just doesn't take enough calories! He takes a lot of nutrients and vitamines from the fruit, the meat and the vegetables, but the real calories, needed to grow, come from the milk. So my little one doesn't get enough milk during the day. Isn't it obvious he asks for so much milk at night then? She advised me to make him drink a small bottle of breastmilk between times, and to add some breastmilk to his vegetable puree as well. She also told me to do light breast compression when he nurses during the day, in order for him to drink just that little more. He still doesn't sleep through the night, but now and then I get an uninterrupted six hour sleep. It was so simple and obvious, but it didn't occur to me. Ik zou je graag heel hard bedanken voor het fantastische Boobs'n Burps initiatief. Ik stond echt op het punt te stoppen met borstvoeding: altijd diezelfde kleurloze T shirts, altijd datzelfde saaie ondergoed en uiteraard steevast de vraag wanneer we zouden overschakelen op poedermelk want "je moet binnenkort toch weer gaan werken" of "moet ze ngo geen groentepapjes krijgen". En toen vond ik heel toevallig jullie winkel! Kleurige, fleurige kleedjes. Vrouwelijke lingerie. en de milkbar. Ondertussen ben ik weer aan het werk, loopt het kolven vlot en is het absoluut zalig om na een lange dag werk/crèche met ons tweetjes in de zetel te kruipen. First of all, I'd like to congratulate you with the splendid shop. In July 2009 my son Vince was born. I'm breastfeeding for some 13 months now and I'm happy I have discovered this website through Flair. I really think it's fantastic that you're developing a shop about breastfeeding. I live in Herentals and around here I really couldn't find a lot of information or affordable clothes. Good luck!

Some two months early and without any previous signs, our little boy was born.
In spite of all the promises in books, he wasn't allowed on my belly, not even for just a moment. Off he went, to neonatology: he got a gastric tube and I got a pump: that's how our first day together ended: unpleasantly surprised and separated from each other. A hospital pump with a piercing noise, two breasts, seven times a day, during a whole week... Calculate with me: 7 days later I had feared cracked nipples nearly 100 times.
Luckily, I then met Roeline and her curverbox: a Medela Pump in Style, a bustier to pump both sides at a time (saved me up to 1,5 hour per day!), a Boob outfit and a whole lot of advise. This was the start of 12 months of breastfeeding, bringing my baby from 2 to 8 kilos with breastmilk! Thank you for being there for me with your superservice! All the best with your business, I'm sure you will make loooots of mommies happy!

Your shop is a fantastic initiative and it's really needed here in Belgium! I really hope moms-to-be and breastfeeding moms will find the way to your shop! I wish I had discovered you earlier (although maybe you don't exist since a long time?), I'm sure I would have been a regular! Soon my breastfeeding period with our third child will come to an end, and I mostly found information on Dutch sites, 9 years ago with our first child. Standard baby shops over here were, and still are, a disaster as to style. Luckily there is the Marlies Dekkers breastfeeding line... It's a must to be able to stay feminine during and after the pregnancy.
I wish you the best of luck, you're really needed, so make sure you advertise a lot!!!

I just wanted to let you know dat I recently stopped breastfeeding, my daughter is 18 months old now.I'm almost sure that, if I hadn't met you that last week before getting back to work, I probably would have bought the first boxes of formula milk.After all, that's how it happened with our first child, and even if I kept giving her breastmilk in the morning and at night until she was 9 months old, once you have the formula milk, the permanent switch is made before you know it.Now we just kept going, without really thinking about it or questioning it (at least, WE didn't), as something natural and obvious.I have to say the combination work-breastfeeding was hard, but in the end it's just temporary. I'm so happy I did it!

I wanted to let you know how it went with one of the first pumps you sold in your shop. If people are indecisive about the Medela hands-free, win them over! I was so satisfied with it, never had to worry about sockets or wether I was going to find a suitable place to pump (OK, one time I did it in a toilet for disabled people..). I can even check my mail while pumping. Nathan is almost 6 months old now and still drinks breastmilk, even if his mother sometimes leaves the house for 36 hours because of work (we don't mind about giving him formula milk from time to time) and I still wear my nursing shirts. I'm so happy you opened your shop just when I needed all those things. Thanks for your enthousiasm. Good luck and best regards!
